5th February 2012

The H J Pitcher Memorial Snooker Tournament sponsored by Steve Kay Entertainment was played at the Belgrave Snooker Club on Sunday 5th February, with a respectable entry of 32 players.

The most surprising exit from the tournament in the first round was by Hayden Pinhey, last years winner, especially after he won the first frame with the aid of a 70 break, but his opponent Alan Iancu fought back hard and took the next two frames to go through to the next round.  The highest break of the day was made in the first round by Mike Day, this was a 105 clearance in the third frame to give Mike a 2-1 win over Andy James.  Phil Walters never say die attitude helped him through to the second round after needing several snookers in the final frame against Chris Hosking, but these were achieved and Phil won the battle 2-1.  Kenny Beer won the first match against Lawrence Ward 2-1 as did Chris Ackland against Kris Clarke.  Dan Legassick won the first frame against Cody Hall on the black and then Cody won the second, but Dan managed to take the third, having breaks of 32, 38 and 37 during this match.  The match between Paul Bunting and Paul Heath went to the final black of the third frame with Paul Bunting making it through to the second round.  Barry Walker won the first frame against Paul Perks comfortably, but it was Paul Perks who won the match after taking the next two frames.  The first round match between Sean Brown and Jamie Graham was very close in all three frames, but it was Jamie who was victorious after winning the final frame by just one point.  John Corry made a 38 break in his first frame against Terry Everson and then went on to win the match 2-0.  There were also 2-0 wins for Adam Lewin, Roger Searle, Kevin Buckingham, Jack Moore, Nathan Finch and Nigel Llewellyn against Mo Twomey, Dave Collins, Rick Steadman, Steve Sowden, Mark Hembry and Maggie Baugh respectively.

In round 2 Roger Searle won the first frame, but lost the next two against Dan Legassick.  Paul Perks also won the first frame but still lost to Nigel Llewellyn 2-1 as did Adam Lewin against Phil Walters.  Nathan Finch won 2-1 against Chris Ackland.  Alan Iancu made a 55 break in his first frame against Mike Day and then went on to also win the second.  Jamie Graham made a 44 break as he won 2-0 over Kevin Buckingham.  Kenny Beer won 2-0 against Paul Bunting as did John Corry over Jack Moore.

In the quarter finals only one of the matches was played over three frames, that was Nathan Finch against Jamie Graham, with Nathan coming out on top.  Nigel Llewellyn won 2-0 against John Corry as did Alan Iancu over Kenny Beer and Dan Legassick against Phil Walters, with Dan having a 52 break in the first frame.

In the semi-finals the first frame was close between Alan Iancu and Dan Legassick, with Dan winning the frame, but in the second Dan made breaks of 48 and 23 to win convincingly to make it to the final.  The other semi-final was won by Nathan Finch against Nigel Llewellyn.

Dan Legassick just could not keep up his break building in the final match, so it was club mate Nathan Finch who won the 2012 H J Memorial Snooker tournament 2-0.
